Madison County Environmental Roundtable

Madison County, MO

Cohort 11 - 2022
NLAPH

Overview

Madison County has a 300+ year history of lead mining. The City of Fredericktown's potable water supply is drawn from the surface water of the Little St. Francis River. The pool upriver from the dam has lead-contaminated sediments that are a concern. As mineral standards are lowered, this could impact public water supply to the residents of Fredericktown. Additionally, many small family farms are being developed into residential properties. As lead tailings have been used as ag lime on the fields, the new developments. Soil contamination, education to the landowners, sampling, and remediation are all long-term and probably forever concerns.

  1. Develop a sound strategic plan with short, mid, and long-term goals.

  2. Develop an implementation plan for at least one short, mid, and long-term goal.

  3. Develop an evaluation process for the implementation plans developed.
