HHS Region 9
Arizona
Arizona School Immunization Coalition
Phoenix, AZ
Cohort 13 - 2024
NLAPH
Overview
Coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, childhood immunization rates in Arizona are decreasing, and school vaccine exemption rates increasing. Many school nurses are brand new to the field, often without support.
Our project will build on current partnerships with school nurses to create a mentorship program by matching up experienced school nurses with brand new nurses, providing support and guidance around processes and reporting requirements.
We would also like to identify 5-10 school nurses to be vaccine ambassadors who are willing to educate nurses, communities, and state legislators. Using these ambassadors, we will create a plan for next steps in sustainability for the mentorship program.

Cohort 11 - 2022
NLAPH
Overview
The Mohave County Childhood Immunization Team would like to increase accessibility to vaccines and education to vaccines for families in Mohave County. The team would like to increase the goal for children 0-18 in all vaccines and reduce the vaccine exemption rate. The team would like to continue to bring a collaborative network of partners to assist in this project to help provide a long-term solution in accessibility so that the community does not have a gap in services in the future as well as provide accessibility to vaccine education that allows families to make informed decisions about their health.

Healthy Pima
Tucson, Pima County, AZ
Cohort 4 - 2015
NLAPH
Overview
The Healthy Pima team is currently on track to implement the Pasos Adelante curriculum in January 2015, a tested curriculum that focuses on chronic disease prevention that is culturally appropriate for Spanish speaking immigrant and non-immigrant populations. The curriculum will be delivered to promotoras, or community health workers. The team plans on creating additional training modules focused on health insurance literacy, housing, and food insecurity. In conjunction with these updates and in an attempt to address food deserts, the team will also support updates to urban agricultural zoning regulations in Pima County to allow for increased ability to produce, raise and sell local produce, eggs and dairy products.
