Organizational Physics

Organizational physics reinforces the notion that success and sustainability are only possible through adaptive practices. In the article “Success Goes to the Best Adapted,” Lex Sisney talks about physics and the natural systems process of gaining energy through alignment of forces.

To advance health in our communities, our organizations are collaborating with aligned vision and values. Our vision and values are what guide our efforts to match the skills and capabilities we possess as a team with opportunities to create change. We gain energy through our work when we use these opportunities to create systems that can better meet the needs and health of our community. However, in the dynamic and ever-changing world of public health, this can often feel like trying to hit a moving target. This is why adaptive practices are imperative to the success and sustainability of any endeavor. During this first phase of LAPH, we spend time building alignment, seeking partnership, and designing our projects to ensure the infrastructure itself can thrive from the energy we receive. LAPH is built as an adaptive leadership exercise precisely because without adapting, our team efforts and projects fall into entropy as factors begin to breakdown (team dynamics, funding, politics, etc.). Through adaptive practices, we can ensure that we are continually bringing in new energy and opportunities to succeed.
